“In a world like this one, fiction can be your best and only true friend.”

N O ONE GOES INTO THE ARMY expecting to find a lot of privacy, so Brandi had been caught off guard at times and never truly impressed by the consequences of sharing her bedroom with more than ten other women. What did amaze her was how pleasant it felt to gain a taste of privacy once she had moved into another room. She still had to share her space with someone else but it was so different from having fraction of an army around her at all times. She could go to her room to find peace, solace and tranquility – it was reliable. The best part was that she wasn’t sharing the room with just anybody. Brandi was overjoyed every day when it was further confirmed that Sara was nearly the perfect roommate.

The nights became cherished moments for conversations to flow in the space between their two beds.

“Why do you want so many books? Don’t you have enough already in those awfully boring lectures?”

“They’re not particularly good … they don’t really show us the real world, do they? We need more books here, other than just fictions.” Brandi timidly remarked, trying to keep her genuine thoughts on the present education system to herself. Then, she eagerly waited for Sara’s response.
